Chapman-Summers Cemetery is an old historic cemetery in Newberry County South Carolina. It is a memorial to two families, the Chapmans and the Summers. It has a mailbox on the property where you can leave donations for the upkeep of the cemetery. In the mailbox you can find graves and leave information about about the person you know buried in the cemetery. This cemetery dated back to the 1700's.
The cemetery is several miles East of Prosperity, SC. The cemetery is located where the Universalist Church meeting house once stood and was preached by Rev. Giles Chapman. The cemetery has recently been cleared, a mail box is there for visitors to sign in and take a directory of the graves located there. "The oldest grave that can be identified is that of Mary Summers Chapman (10/10/1758-10/15/1813), wife of Rev. Giles Chapman. The most recent grave is that of Idalia Dennis Cousins 6/22/1870-7/13/56).
Deeds trace the exact property to its present owner Elizabeth Paysinger Fulmer, who is the great grand-daughter of Rosannah S. Chapman Paysinger (granddaughter of Giles Chapman).
